A Roster Of Distinguished Honorees Slated To Receive Awards During Masters Week in Augusta, Georgia

New York, NY (February 6, 2012) --The African American Golfer’s Digest, the nations leading print magazine and online portal for avid black golfers, and a PGA of America Diverse Supplier, will hold its 2nd annual Augusta GolfFEST in Augusta, Ga., on April 5. Augusta GolfFEST celebrates family, history, fitness, and golf and is designed to galvanize camaraderie among all. Included in the festivities is its “Outstanding Leaders In Golf” 3rd annual awards program that honors esteemed individuals for their success and exemplary roles in opening doors and extending opportunities in the game and throughout the industry for African Americans.

Among the list of distinguished honorees is Randall Wrifght, M.D., author of “The Wright Choice – Your Family Prescription for Healthy Eating, Modern Fitness, & Saving Money.” Dr. Wright will receive the “Author of the Year” award.

Dr. Wright serves as both the Director of the NeurovascularInstitute at Conroe Regional Medical Center as well as the Medical director of the Health South Rehabilitation Hospital Stroke Unit. He attended Xavier University in New Orleans, La., and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physics. He also earned a bachelor’s of Electrical Engineering with emphasis in computer architectural design from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga.

Dr. Wright’s medical training began at Emory University School of medicine. He then completed his Neurology Residency at Baylor College of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident his last year there. He then completed a 2-year fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine, while also working as a Staff Neurologist at the Houston VA and serving as Co-Director of the Baylor Neurology Student clerkship.

In 2011, he was asked to serve as Chairman of the Stroke Committee for the American Heart Association’s South Western affiliate. In this role, Dr. Wright leads the fight against stroke across 6 states, buy setting the AHA priorities in regards to stroke care for hospitals, stroke legislation, and developing protocols for the stroke chain of survival in those states.

In addition to his volunteer work with the American Heart Association, Dr. Wright is also a mentor for the 100 Black Men of America, Houston Chapter. In 2009 and 2010 he served as the organizer and chairman of the Child Health Obesity Forum on the campus of the Houston Community College, down town location.

“Our list of honorees represents the strong leadership, success, and diversity present in the game of golf today and each has made a substantial impact in the golf industry, especially in developing relationships within the African American community in particular. It is for these contributions that they are being presented with their awards, and I look forward to saluting each of them personally at our program,” says Debert Cook, CMP, publisher of the nine-old, national quarterly magazine. To commemorate this special tribute, honorees will be included in an editorial profile featured in the Summer/July 2012 edition of the African American Golfer’s Digest. Honorees will also be officially recognized at a special awards dinner on Thursday, April 5, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at the Goshen Plantation Golf Course, owned by former PGA Tour Player Spike Kelly and located at 1601 Goshen Clubhouse Dr., Augusta, Georgia 30906.

Augusta GolfFEST suitably coincides with The Masters golf tournament, the first of the majors to be played each year, since 1940, at Augusta National Golf Club. During this time millions of visitors from around the world throng the city to enjoy the week-long competitive action, social functions and great golf networking. Augusta GolfFEST will play host to educational and fun activities for the entire family in partnership with the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of African American History including an exhibition of Black golf legends with a focus on Black caddies, a children’s golf camp, a historic walking tour, and more.
